Coaching

When I began playing Wheelchair Rugby in 2015, there was no program in Prince George. When B.C. Wheelchair Sports was in need of someone to spearhead the program, my family and I stepped in, and I volunteered to become the coach. It has been such an awesome experience.

It is amazing being able to be in the coaches shoes and teaching people of all ages the game I love so much.  I know first hand what a good coach can do for a young athlete and their career. If I can instill some confidence in the children and give them something to strive for, then I will be more than successful. Through my accomplishments and coaching, I try to show kids and people with disabilities from the North that anything is possible if they work at it.

I plan to continue my coaching career for a long time, and train the next generation of rugby athletes while spreading awareness about this great game which I love so much.

Summer Camp Leader

A CKPG news story including an interview with me on Wheelchair Rugby in the North.

I began working as a Summer Camp Leader for Engage Sport North in the summer of 2016. Throughout the summer, we run sport camps that teach kids from 6-12 physical literacy in many different ways and giving them the opportunities to try sports of all kinds. We bring in coaches from various sports to allow kids to see sports they may like to pursue later on.

Our main goal, however, is ultimately to teach the kids physical literacy, which includes simple things like passing and catching, or learning how to run and jump properly. These are life skills which will not just be useful in sport, but in many areas down the road.

I love being able to interact with the kids, and watching them progress as their learn a new skill. The smile and the pride shown on their face after mastering a skill makes it all worth it.
